Fundraiser For The Monk Family
Impact The LIGHT Of This Local Family
In April, a single mother of three discovered a lump on her neck. After a series of tests, including an MRI and biopsy, she was diagnosed with Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma, a type of cancer now at stage 3b. She is scheduled to receive her port on June 24th and will begin chemotherapy and radiation treatments the following day.
During this same challenging week, her 16-year-old daughter, who has been diagnosed with hereditary spherocytosis, was admitted to VCU due to significant anemia. Her condition, which had been under control since she was three, was exacerbated by a viral infection that suppressed her bone marrow, causing her hemoglobin levels to drop dangerously low. She spent her Sweet 16 in the hospital, receiving blood transfusions and undergoing close monitoring of her hemoglobin and immature red blood cells for recovery. Thankfully, with treatment, her condition improved, and she was stable at the time of discharge.
This family, already navigating the complexities of a single-parent household, is now facing these simultaneous health battles with courage and resilience. Your support and generosity can make a significant difference as they tackle these overwhelming challenges.
